A JOURNEY OF AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION: VIJAY ARORA
Hey guys as we all know the best method for holding
feelings, capturing emotions. An autograph means a lot for those who have them yes you
heard the right autograph becomes an emotion for us whenever we get it is a
feeling of something very special.
So now we are
going to ask some exciting questions to VIJAY ARORA
1. What drew you towards autograph collection as a
hobby?
“Very
interesting question, I was introduced to this by Mr. SANTOSHJI, and I found
his approach very unique. You know when he started off the club at the beginning, I
was the part of the earliest club, maybe 15-20 years ago. He gave an
identity card addressed to the police commissioner which said 'Please allow
this person access to wherever because he's a member of the Autograph Club of
India”.
At
that time, I had a few autographs. My first one which I actually got
signed was from the late painter M.F. HUSSAIN. He
had a painting which he made on BAL
GANGADHAR TILAK and that painting said 'SWARAJ is my birthright'.
In 1988 the Government of India had turned that painting into stamp.
It
is actually framed and hung in my in my house. It's a se-tenant stamp which is
in the form of a painting on which he has personally signed."

2. Do your family members and friends understand your craze for
autographs or do you get mocked for it?
"Well,
they've learned to tolerate my hobbies (He said in a very funny
manner) and I sometimes try to get them interested, but my family
always asks me to keep them protected, what happens you know when you look
at the autograph and you find out about the person's achievements, what
they've done, it gives you such a historical and appreciative
perception about that person.
I'll give you a very unique example of LEANDER PAES who is a famous tennis player in India. LEANDER PAES’s mother is related to the great Bengali poet MICHAEL MADHUSUDHAN DUTT, his mother's great grandfather, also known as M.M. DUTT. That was one of the great personalities on whom the Indian Government had released the stamp and first day cover in 1973 and I have that in my collection, when Leander saw that he was thrilled and signed this with a personal message, in fact he asked me for one cover so that he could present this to his mother, these are some great stories which always inspires me and is a special moment for me.”

3. How big is your collection? How do you protect it? Can you please share some tips?
“I haven't really counted,
but OK. If they're lying in a place then my family always asks me to keep
the collection protected.
I'm
part of the group where they give us some advice. We use some of these tips and
suggestions. I put them in acid free plastic folders and preserve them
carefully.”
4. What are the extremes level you have gone to seek
an autograph?
“I
waited for 4 hours to meet the famous dancer and film star named VYJAYANTHIMALA
who is now in her 80s , I knew she was
coming and I waited, I didn't know which entrance she'll come from . I went in
and out of the Auditorium and finally
when she came, I opened the car door for her. I
thought that was a good gesture. And
she signed on a record.”
5. Your tips for autograph seeker and making.
“Please
be sensitive about the person you are approaching. Always
be sensitive.”
